Consider buying the dot-com equivalents of UK domains and hyphenated versions as well, for strategic reasons: it stops anyone else buying them.

For example, consider mydomain.co.uk and my-domain.co.uk, plus the dot-com versions. This may be a very important anti-piracy aspect for some businesses. You can usually "forward" multiple domains to point to one web site so you only pay to host one web site.
